Frequently asked questions about Interpresource

Why do we need a new system for matching interpreters to assignments?

Do you think the present system works well? We talked to many interpreters and client organisations, and it quickly became clear that something was missing.

The clients aren’t happy. They can’t get the interpreters they need without spending hours on the phone. Agencies introduce an extra cost into the equation, without consistently supplying suitable, qualified and reliable interpreters. Admin, billing and the handling of expenses tend to be clumsy and complicated, crying out for online forms and a degree of sensible automation.

The interpreters need a faster, simpler, fairer way of getting information about assignments and signalling their availability.

These are all real problems, and Interpresource provides a real, robust set of solutions.

Why is Interpresource an important step forward?

With Interpresource, everyone benefits, except, perhaps, the traditional middlemen.

Clients pay much less for a demonstrably better, faster solution to their problems. Good, professional interpreters get more work and keep more of the money they earn because there is no agency commission. Work is assigned earlier and with more certainty, allowing everyone to plan ahead better. Records are kept automatically, providing a clear audit trail and easier resolution of disputes and misunderstandings.

At a stroke, Interpresource professionalises the way interpreting resources and tasks are matched up.

How does it work?
  1. A client organisation that needs an interpreter logs in to Interpresource and fills in a simple online request form. This specifies the language needed, the time, date and likely duration of the assignment, the location (postcode or named building), formal qualifications required and any specialist vocabulary or background that will be important.

  2. Interpresource scans its database for suitable interpreters, based on the clients’ detailed criteria. It checks in case these interpreters have already said they are unavailable and then offers the job via simultaneous text messages to the first 10 interpreters.

  3. Interpreters who are interested simply text back the short job code included in the offer text.

  4. If there are no positive replies, Interpresource repeats the process, texting batches of suitable interpreters until the assignment is placed.

How can Interpresource save so much money?

There is no magic about it. The only sure way to take costs out of administrative processes is to reduce the human intervention that’s needed.

By using direct input from computers to text messaging and texts to computers, Interpresource takes the parts of the process that require no human judgement and makes them happen automatically, at virtually no cost.

Texting turns out to be the ideal medium for distributing assignment information and collecting the fast, unambiguous responses that make the system practical and reliable.

Can I work in two languages as well as English?

Yes. You can be registered for up to nine languages. Each language has to be registered by your clients, if they are satisfied with your competence in the language.
